Dear Business Leader,
My name is Matt King and I am the owner of Compliant Cleaning Supplies. I would like to take a little of your time to explain a bit about me, my company and how we create ease and save you time and money when it comes to your cleaning needs. I feel it’s important to know who you are dealing with when you make important decisions about cleaning products and services, because after all, the result is very visible to staff and clients. Business reputations are built on clean environments, so you need to get it right. There’s a lot that must go into your decision…you’re not deciding on a chocolate bar off the shelf!
I thought I’d begin with where things are today…I’ve been in this business for over 8 years and we currently carry over 2,700 items. We employ 10 staff at our Wilston office. My wife Rachel manages the front office, and Terry Maguire our General Manager is a co-Director and manages the operations team.
We deliver products from northern NSW to north Queensland and are renowned for creating Australia’s fastest online ordering system.
I often get asked “how?” a small family business has made all this possible.
Our beginnings are humble…
I started cleaning when I was 15 doing just about anything from floor strip and sealing, carpet shampooing and water blasting to builders cleans. For pocket money during my school years I worked every Saturday and school holidays cleaning and doing ground maintenance.
When I finished school I was one of those kids who didn’t really know what I wanted to do, so I stuck with what I knew. I applied for a job as a warehouse store man/delivery driver for a cleaning supply shop.
My brother Craig and I had a financial security plan which was to buy a house together. I supplemented my storeman’s wage with night cleaning jobs.
Hard work has never been a problem for me and I was rewarded with a move from the warehouse into a junior sales position. After 1 year I qualified for commission due to bringing more clients on board. Most clients came on board because I introduced them to green chemicals and better-quality floor sealers that lasted longer.
Turns out I was the first person that supply company had to pay commission to, ever! I soon learned they didn’t like doing that, so I left.
A position in a floor care specialist company was next. I traveled Qld demonstrating their products on floors proving how much better they were than their competitors. I grew the business from 2 shopping centers to over 50 in 3.5 years.
This set me on the path to our eventual success. Over the next 8 years I joined 2 other companies selling all products from the cleaning supply industry. It was here I learned all the skills and product knowledge required to start my own business.
The “big rocks” from this were the importance of customer service, the need for product expertise and the courage to try new products and equipment to test their claims… all in an effort to find better quicker ways to clean or save money for clients.
My wife Rachel and I had children pretty young, I was 22 and 2 children Mila & Hudson come along one after another which was a bit of a shock. I say there is nothing better to get you out of bed than 3 mouths to feed!! I’ve been lucky to have them on my journey and they have truly been supporting me all the way.
Fast forward to today…
Compliant Cleaning Supplies is, I’m proud to say, a market leader.
We have won the BSCAA (Building Service Contractors Association Aust) and “QLD Outstanding Business partner” award 3 of the last 6 years running, which is every year we have entered it!.
I have been fortunate enough to be able to give back to the industry over 2 terms as president of the NCSA (National Cleaning Suppliers Association).
One of the keys to our success is our desire to remain at the cutting edge of the industry. I travel yearly to Cleaning Product and Equipment trade shows within Australia and overseas to find new products and technology to introduce to our clients.
We have 25 years in the industry, but the thing clients comment on most is what they call their best asset, our technology. Yes, our staff are leaders when it comes to customer service. Without the best technology, managing customer orders, our staff would need to work much harder and be under a lot more stress. We have fine-tuned our technology to make their jobs as stress free and as enjoyable as possible, which means a smoother service for you.
And it’s true… our ordering system is widely acknowledged as the FASTEST in Australia.
We are very proud of our staff who go above and beyond to make sure you are happy. One of the real thrills for me is the many calls from clients to acknowledge their effort.
We do love to give back, both personally and as a company. For the last 10 years we have supported World Vision and Multicap. We have sponsored numerous children and supported them all they through to their school graduation. It’s always a thrill to receive their letters and photos each Christmas.
